@Marty - your personal experience reminds me of Job's. He went through a tremendous amount in his life, just like you have obviously gone through a lot of hard times. I have pondered some of your points before, actually. And unfortunately, I don't have any good insights for you. Certainly Christians, like everyone else, get sick and hurt and die. Life seems like a basic need, so, yeah, some good points to ponder. It just wasn't meant to be like this - sin screwed this place up - but there is hope that one day it will all be restored.
"He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death will not exist any more – or mourning, or crying, or pain, for the former things have ceased to exist.” Rev 21:4

I am not so sure. I suffer from a severe nerve disease and lost my job. MY wife is already disabled. We both love God and prayed through many hard times. We struggled just to get medical help without insurance. It took every dime I made to get my wifes meds, I did without. We had times of no power, no water, no food, certainly no medical care. We did without to keep a roof over our heads. We are now losing our home of 15 years.
We have no idea where we will go.

During this, I pondered about God meeting needs. I went on a mission trip years ago to Africa. The tribe loved Christ, were saved. It was a different culture, but they truly worshipped God. At the same time they were starving to death, even as missions tried to provide food. Many died from hunger, diseased water, lack of shelter...are those not basic needs. It is estimated in America 2 million children go hungry everyday..doe's God not care for children.

All over the world Christians that love God go without basic needs being met. Here in America we
have lots of government programs for the needy, but is that God. Still, it isn't enough and most third world nations don't have these programs. I'm not sure what this verse means, but I can't connect it to God will provide our basic needs.

"I worry about money way too much; maybe you do as well."

I sometimes catch myself worrying too. But I thank God for always reminding me that there has never been a time in my life when He didn't provide for all my needs.

I'm glad God doesn't give me everything I want. Otherwise, I might easily forget Him.

Thanks John for this inspiring post.

Jose

@Cherelle - I love how you put that - God failing you is the "only thing that God cannot do!" That's awesome...I've never quite thought about it that way. Thanks for the insight!

I completely agree! I often find myself stressing about financial matters, when I know that God has my back, and He has never failed me yet. In fact that's the only thing that God cannot do! I need to make it a daily practice to cast my cares on Him and know that he CAN and WILL work things out in my favor!

Great post and God bless :-)
