Weekly Bible Verse – Enhancing or Squandering?

November 2, 2009 · Filed Under Weekly Bible Verse · Comments

The earnings of the godly enhance their lives, but evil people squander their money on sin.  Proverbs 10:16 (NLT)

What are you doing with the money that you are earning?  Are you utilizing it to enhance your life and that of your family?  Are you preparing for your retirement so that you can take care of yourself and not rely on others (like your kids or, worse yet, your government)?  Are you using it to support your church, or a nearby start-up church, missionaries, or other organizations that work for God’s kingdom and/or help those in need?

Or are you not really worrying about anyone beside yourself?  Are you hoarding your money?  Are you just burning through it on selfish pursuits?

Now don’t get me wrong.  I’m not saying that you can’t ever do anything fun with your money.  Everyone needs to have hobbies; everyone needs to do some “stuff” just for themselves sometimes.  But as we are told by the New Living Translation’s, uh, translation of Proverbs 10:16, the way we use our money is a reflection of whether we are living our lives for God or simply for ourselves.  I feel that this is a good verse to reflect on every once in a while to take a hard and honest look at what is taking priority in your life at the current time.

God bless and have a great week…
