Hi, my name is John
Hello there – I am John and I like to talk about personal finances. Oh, yeah, and this is my blog – BorrowFromNone.com. So, I’m not really sure what to put in the very first post of a new blog…so I’ll just introduce myself. (oh, I already did that). Anyway, welcome to my blog and I promise future posts will be more exciting (or at least more interesting).
Personal Finances for Normal People
This is a blog about personal finance from a Biblical and "non-expert" view. I consider myself a fairly normal person (except for the part about wanting to create my own blog, I guess) – I am not a financial planner or CPA or attorney or anything like that. In fact, I am a software engineer. So, this blog is from a normal person’s perspective about normal person financial planning stuff, stuff that concerns normal people like earning money, spending money, living frugally, living responsibly, debt, mortgages, credit cards, car loans, student loans, budgeting, saving, investing, retirement, college funding, insurance, and all the myriad other topics that concern us normal people.
Again, since I am not an expert, I, the writer, am not the one lecturing you, the reader, about everything you need to know regarding these topics. On the contrary, we are in this together. I throw out what I think and what I’ve learned through my years and my studies and you respond with your thoughts and your experiences and we all join in a conversation. As a result, I think we’ll all be better off as a result of our shared knowledge. Of course, we won’t agree on everything and that’s when it will get quite interesting and worthwhile (as long as we all play nice, that is).
But Not Just Normal Christian People
As I mentioned, this site will be from a Biblical perspective whenever possible. I am a Christian, or Christ-follower (that seems to be the popular term nowadays), and so my world view is greatly influenced by that fact. It is not something that I can separate out from the way I view and interact with the world. A non-Christian will also have a world view and it will be quite different but just because you are not a Christian does not mean you do not have a world view. Everyone has a world view and it is fundamental to that person’s thoughts, feelings, decisions, etc. But please don’t let that turn you off if you are not a Christian – I think you’ll find that the Bible contains some excellent financial advice!
So what should you expect?
I plan to cover a number of interesting topics (well, topics that I consider interesting at least) on this blog. Please get involved and leave comments if you agree, disagree, or have more information to add. And please email me at john@borrowfromnone.com with any suggestions, questions, comments, or specific topics you’d like to see covered. Thanks for stopping by…please come back when there is some actual content on the site (it will be very soon)!
